May 20, 1930 - April 5, 2022
Arthur M. Malcy, 91, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2022 at Sunrise of Leawood. A lifelong Kansas City resident, he was recognized in the advertising community as a gregarious, creative and sometimes feisty collaborator. Art was a product of the Mad Men era—before anyone thought to make it so popular. He co-owned several successful advertising agencies throughout his career. Three-martini lunches, great storytelling ability, and a contagious laugh made him a success in advertising as well as with family and friends. He was born during the Great Depression and was loved by family. Art went to Paseo High School and graduated from the University of Missouri where he was a Sigma Alpha Mu. He married Frances Friedman in 1958. They were married 43 years, had 3 children and were about to celebrate retirement when she became ill with cancer, passing away in 2001. He married Donna Kupper in 2003. They enjoyed companionship, travel, and dinners with friends and family for many years. He looked forward to lunches with the R.O.M.E.O. club and playing weekly poker games with life-long friends. Although declining health shifted his plans, he was eternally hopeful that things would improve. Even though the last few years of his life were challenging, Art continued to win people over with his quick wit and sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Donna Kupper, Prairie Village, his son and daughter-in-law Steve Malcy (Pam Malcy), Leawood, KS; his daughter and her spouse Lisa Malcy (Pat McCrae), Portland, OR; and his daughter and her spouse Stephanie Malcy (Jay Schaefer), Minneapolis, MN. Grandchildren, Allison Malcy, Merik Schaefer and Ryah Schaefer. Stepchildren: Steve (Lisa) Mokofsky; Stephanie (John) Klauber. Our family is truly grateful for the amazing care he received from Ascend Hospice and the staff at Sunrise of Leawood. They were especially caring during Covid isolation and his sedentary last days. A graveside service will be held at Mount Carmel Cemetery on Friday April 8, 2022 at 1 pm. To join by zoom, please email [email protected] for link and passcode. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Jewish Community Center in care of The Heritage Center.
