March 21, 1928 - January 18, 2013
Beatrice Serber Efron left this world on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the age of 84 after a feisty struggle with cancer. Services will be at 2:30pm Friday, January 18, 2013 in the chapel at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery, with burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Kehilath Israel Synagogue’s choir fund or Jewish Family Services. Her motto was, “It is surprising what you can do when you love someone”. She loved and was loved by nearly everyone she met, and will be missed by everyone who ever met her. Bea held dear traditional values, believed in telling the truth and her word was her commitment. She embraced everything she did and imbued it with her passion for people, be it raising a family, work, volunteering, praying, singing, and making her house a home. Born in NYC, she spent most of her young years in Minneapolis, MN, raised her family in Kansas, where she lived since the 1950’s. Beatrice was happily married to Jerome (Jerry) Efron. Her greatest privilege and joy in life was raising her children together with him. She loved music and played piano and clarinet in her youth. Her great empathy for others was famous, and her inviting conversation skills quickly put people at ease. Among her greatest traits was how she spoke to and listened to children. Her motto was “Being fair is the most important thing to me. That means being honest even when it does not support your own point of view”. The family wants to thank Rabbi Mandl for his attention and kindness, to the Chazzan Rabbi Shron for his friendship, and recognize the skill and kindness at St. Luke’s South hospital and the cancer clinic. Bea was fruitful and multiplied. Survivors include her husband of 64 years Jerome Efron; children: Mike and Bari Efron (Baltimore); Ruhama and Ariel Yeshurun and their children Avner, Akiva, Tamara and Leah (Miami); Noam and Leah Efron and their daughter Hadar (Baltimore) Joshua Efron (OP); Hillel and Rivkah Efron and their sons Chaim Aryeh, Yona, and Yair (Chicago); Erica and Matt Barnes and their children Noah and Amilie (OP); Merav and Tzvi Levine and their children Nava and Levi (Baltimore); Libi and Yaakov Frager and their daughter Esther (Baltimore); Ben-Zion Efron (Baltimore); one brother, two sisters, nephews and nieces. She is going be reunited with her beloved son Bruce Allen Efron and great granddaughter Ahuva Chayn Efron.
