Donations may be made in Beverly's memory to Village Shalom, KC Hospice, Children's Mercy Hospital, Maternity Care Coalition, 2000 Hamilton St., Suite 205, Philadelphia, PA 19130, or to a charity of your choice. Beverly was born January 13, 1922, to Sadie (Sally) and Herman Beringause in Brooklyn, NY. She earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in elementary education from Brooklyn College and Richmond College, respectively, of the City University of New York. Beverly taught kindergarten at P.S. 169 in Brooklyn, NY for 26 years. Beverly met her husband, Albert, when she was 11 and he was 15 years old in Brooklyn where they lived on the same street. They were married after WWII and raised their children on the same street and in the same house where Al was raised. Beverly and Al's greatest joy in life was their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They doted on their grandchildren, who adored them in return. In 1980, Beverly and Al moved to Covered Bridge, a retirement community in Manalapan, NJ where they lived for 26 years. There, Beverly managed the finances of their senior citizens group, often handling tens of thousands of dollars for various trips and activities that she planned. Beverly and Al were fortunate to have 60 years together during which time they traveled extensively and frequently attended Broadway musicals. Beverly and Al moved to Village Shalom in 2006, where Al passed away several months later. While Beverly was in college during WWII, volunteers were needed to knit sweaters for freezing Russian soldiers, who were then our allies. Though she didn't yet know how to knit, Beverly volunteered, ultimately becoming a master knitter. She created beautiful sweaters for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others. She also embroidered tablecloths for the family and did very fine needlepoint, crewel work, and counted cross-stitch. At a Village Shalom quilting class, Beverly learned to quilt when she was 90 years old and completed two beautiful queen-size quilts. Beverly will also be remembered at Village Shalom for being a "regular" on the monthly trips to the Ameristar Casino, where she loved to play the slot machines and often won. Beverly is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Linda Begleiter, Overland Park, KS; daughter and son-in-law, Bette Begleiter and Paul Messing, Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Ben Begleiter and wife Anna Weisberg, Baltimore, MD; Joshua Hershberg and wife Rachel, Beit Shemesh, Israel; Jake Messing, Brooklyn, NY; and Dara Messing and husband Barry Lynch, Philadelphia, PA; great-grandchildren, Adina, Yosef, Atarah Tiferet and Sara Hershberg, Jonah and Eve Begleiter, and Sadie Lynch; brothers and their wives, Arthur and Bobbi Beringause, Sterling, NJ and Bob and Diane Berin, Melville, NY; nieces and nephews; and cousin Molly Begleiter, Winnipeg, Canada and her family. Beverly's family wishes to thank the entire staff of Village Shalom for the loving care provided over the last 10 years and the staff of KC Hospice for the care provided in the last months and weeks of her life.
