Blanche Schanzer, 90, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Village Shalom. Graveside services will be at 1:00pm Friday, May 20, at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, 12320 Nall, Overland Park, KS 66209. Blanche was born in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Louis and Minnie Miller. She attended Kansas City schools, graduating from Central High School. After school, she had worked in retail fashion. She met her future husband, Ben, while he was serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. They were then married in August of 1944. Blanche was a member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah and was a longtime volunteer at Village Shalom. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Jacqueline Leviton in 2007. Blanche is survived by her husband of 66 ½ years, Ben Schanzer, Overland Park, KS; son and daughter-in-law: Gary and Mary Schanzer, Overland Park, KS; son-in-law: Elliott Leviton; grandchildren: Jakob and Kyle Schanzer; Zachary and Lindsay Leviton. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, caring for her family. Blanche was a wonderful cook who enjoyed hosting family events. Blanche will be greatly missed by her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
