November 3, 1940 - August 23, 2018
Bonnie Rosen, 77, died peacefully at home on August 23, 2018 following more than a year of fighting pancreatic cancer. Bonnie was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 3, 1940 to Abraham I. and Sylvia Schnaer. She graduated from Paseo High School and Kansas City Junior College. Bonnie married Herbert Rosen on August 28, 1960 and they enjoyed fifty-eight years of wedded life together. For twenty years, Bonnie was the consummate Army wife as she moved with Herb across the country and around the world, establishing a household and creating a loving home for her family in each of twenty different locations, sometimes for as little as three weeks. She raised two children, sometimes on her own for periods up to a year. Bonnie was very active in all of the Army’s social life, joining and leading the officers’ wives club activities at duty stations from Kansas, Texas and Virginia, to Germany and the Netherlands – always supporting Herb as he advanced in his career – finally settling in Overland Park for the past 38 years. Bonnie was always very creative and had a passion for arts and crafts of all sorts, including sewing, knitting, painting, ceramics, decoupage, beading and quilting, to name just a few. Her house overflows with her handiwork. Quilting has been her passion for the past twenty years. She was a skillful chef and baker – renowned for her mandel brot and prize winning challah - and kept her family well nourished. Bonnie was active in her Synagogue, Kehilath Israel, volunteering her time in many organizations and activities. She spent countless hours planning and taking part in congregational activities. She always gave 100% to the many organizations she joined, dedicating her full energies to chairing committees and serving as president of the Kehilath Israel Sisterhood. Bonnie organized activities and events and volunteered at the Heritage Center at the Greater Kansas City Jewish Community Center, and numerous other organizations. She was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America in a tenure starting with her membership as a child, and through adulthood, to include her support of her daughter’s scouting career. Bonnie is survived by her husband, Herb; daughter Anne; son Peter and his wife Ellen; and two granddaughters, Mary (Eliahou) Maruani and Sarah; her sister, Madeline (Robert) Schifman and brother Miles (Paula) Schnaer. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Sunday, August 26 at the Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri. Burial will follow at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kehilath Israel Synagogue or the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation (WWW.NPCF.US). The family will hold Shiva services at 7 pm Sunday evening at the home of Herb and Bonnie Rosen. Please call the funeral home for further instruction.
