Charyl Elaine Rubin (nee Bovos), 68, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Wednesday evening, February 7, 2018. Funeral services will be held at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64131 at 11:00am on Friday, February 9, 2018, with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Komen Kansas City komenkansascity.org. Charyl was born in Kansas City, MO. She is a graduate of Southwest High School and Research Hospital's School of Nursing. She then continued her education receiving both her Bachelor's Degree from Baker University, Baldwin City, KS and her Master's Degree from the University of St. Francis, Joliet, IL. Her vast nursing career includes work in both private family practice and in hospital case management, having worked at the major hospitals of Kansas City. Her final 13 years of her career were spent at the University of Kansas Medical Center, prior to her retirement in 2014. Charyl was a member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah and most recently, she was proudly President of the Greater Kansas City Chapter of Hadassah. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Dr. Herbert M. Rubin, her parents, Edward and Pauline (Hanick) Bovos and her brother, Bruce Bovos. Charyl is survived by her children and their spouses: Kimber Leigh Nussbaum, Chicago, IL; Jordan Nussbaum, Overland Park, KS; Bryant and Denise Rubin, Overland Park, KS; Cathy and Tracy Swalley, Overland Park, KS; Russ Rubin and Daniel Boatright, Houston, TX; grandchildren: Gavin Brivik, New York, NY; Alex Brivik, Baldwin City, KS; Elizabeth Rubin, Virginia Beach, VA; Hannah Rubin, Dallas, TX. She was a giver in every sense of the word. A devoted, loving Mother and Grandmother who dearly loved her children, her step-children and her grandchildren as well. Charyl enjoyed an active lifestyle, participating in various exercise classes at the Jewish Community Center. She also enjoyed Mahjongg, Canasta, piano music, traveling (recent trips to the UK and China) and rooting on her beloved Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and University of Kansas Jayhawks. Charyl will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
