June 26, 1918 - December 3, 2010
David Goldstein, 92, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away Friday, December 3, 2010 at Kansas City Hospice House. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 6, at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery, 19th and Blue Ridge Blvd. David was born June 26, 1918 in New York, NY. He spent his youth in the New York City area and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn. During World War II, David enlisted in the army and served as a radio operator with General Patton’s troops. When he returned home, he began working in the food business. He was a restaurant owner and manager in New York City. In 1947, he married the love of his life Sylvia Ruth Wicentowsky. The couple had two daughters. The family moved to Kansas City in 1964. David continued his career in restaurant management until he joined Lady Baltimore Foods. He worked at Lady Baltimore as a warehouse supervisor until his retirement when he was in his early 70s. David was a long time member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue, where he was involved in the Men’s Club and honored as a Minyanaire. He was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. He took every opportunity to play Scrabble and rarely lost a game. In the past year, he’s enjoyed playing poker with his friends at the Atriums. David loved spending time with family. He had an unexpected, dry sense of humor that made everyone laugh. He now joins his beloved wife Sylvia, who will continue “polishing her diamond in the rough.” David was preceded in death by his parents Hyman and Yetta Goldstein, his brothers Jack and William Goldstein, his sister Bella Goldin, his wife Sylvia Goldstein, and his son-in-law Alan Cosner. He is survived by his daughters Robin Jaffe and Kerry Cosner; grandchildren Michael Jaffe, Sara Juster, Anna Jaffe & Michael Horine, Tamar Jaffe, Marina Jaffe, Jonathan & Violet Jaffe, Justin Cosner and Brandon Cosner; great-grandchildren Caroline, Samantha and Ariel Juster and Nicholas Horine; and many nieces and nephews. Donations in David’s memory may be made to Kehilath Israel Synagogue, Kansas City Hospice and the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy.
