May 28, 1919 - February 28, 2015
Dorothy K. Peltzman, 95 of Overland Park, KS passed away on February 28, 2015. Dorothy was born May 28, 1919, in Grand Rapids, MI, and grew up as the youngest of eight children to the late David and Slava Kantor in Cheyenne, WY. She moved to Kansas City, MO, at age 18, where she met her husband, the late Julius Peltzman. A wonderful role model to all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She was a kind, gracious, strong, independent woman who was devoted to her family and her network of lifelong friends. Dorothy loved to read, travel the world, and was well-known among friends and family as an exceptional baker. She demonstrated her love of family by taking care of those around her, and left a lasting legacy with the wonderful (and coveted) Danish rolls, mandel bread, and chocolate chip cookies she always brought along with her to family’s and friends’ special occasions. She is also remembered for the many delicious meals she served her family at every Jewish holiday. Dorothy was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom and The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah. She was preceded in death by siblings Helen Padnos, Morris Kantor, Leah Weber, Sarah Goodman, Mildred Eichenwald, and Julius Kantor. She is survived by her sister Florence Fisher, of Silver Springs, MD., daughter Sherry (Michael) Blumenthal, of Overland Park, KS, son Robert (Millie) Peltzman, of San Carlos, CA., grandchildren Jane (Joseph) Martin and Lisa (Ken) Schifman of Overland Park, KS., Wendy (Adam) Petricoff, Charlotte, NC, Karen (John) Brownlee, Cincinnati, OH, and Erik (Sarah) Peltzman, Lawrence, KS. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Jared, Drew, and Charlie Schifman, Ben and Anna Petricoff, Sarah, Jack, and David Brownlee, Leah and Daniel Martin, and Brody and Paden Peltzman, as well as many nephews and nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at 1:30 pm at Louis Memorial Chapel, followed by the burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family expresses our deepest gratitude to the staff at Village Shalom, and Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care for their wonderful and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Julius Peltzman Scholarship Fund at Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy or Village Shalom.
