Dorothy Ruth Baraban, 89, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Village Shalom. Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, January 19, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue. Burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to Beth Shalom Synagogue Pre-School or the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Baraban was born March 26, 1920 in Kansas City, MO to Philip and Mary (Epstein) Phillips and was a lifelong area resident. She taught for twelve years at Beth Shalom, nursery to third grade. She also taught at Barstow School and in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District. Mrs. Baraban was the Advertising Manager of The Kansas City Jewish Chronicle for ten years. She was a fabulous cook and baker and was featured in the Kansas City Star’s “Come into my Kitchen” for her famous brownies. Mrs. Baraban supported many charities and organizations including Cancer Research Institute in Israel in honor of her father and mother; she was a Hadassah life member, and member of the Sisterhood’s of Congregation Beth Shalom in Kansas City and Congregation Beth El of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam Cinnamon; her husband William Freiden of Omaha, Nebraska; her son, Paul Jay Cinnamon, of Overland Park and her sisters, Libby Bayzman and Ann Phillips of Kansas City. Mrs. Baraban is survived by her husband of 10 years, Jack Baraban; sons and daughters-in-law: Allen and Judy Cinnamon of Leawood, Kansas; Dr. Ken Cinnamon and Karen Wengrod of Sherman Oaks, California; daughter and son-in-law: Marilyn and Mark Miller of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren: Sheri Cardozo, Scott Cinnamon, Justin Cinnamon, Lindsay Pfautsch, Jason Miller, Ian Cinnamon, Molly Cinnamon, Heather Nelson, Rachel Roozrokh and seven great-grandchildren. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
