Dr. Herbert M. Rubin, 74, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at his home. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Thursday, June 9, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64131. Kindly omit flowers; the family suggests contributions to the Greater Kansas City Hadassah, 8900 State Line Road, Suite #406, Leawood, KS 66206 or the Cancer Fund or Heart Fund at The University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Rubin was born in Madison, WI and moved to the Kansas City area, with his family, as a small child. He attended Kansas City schools, received his undergraduate degree at Washington University, St. Louis, MO and received his Medical Degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine, Columbia, MO. He then served his Pediatric Residency at Baylor University Ben Taub Hospital. For over 40 years, Dr. Rubin has been in private practice, at College and Nall in Overland Park, KS, with a children’s emphasis on ADD. Dr. Rubin was a lifelong member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Meyer and Anna (Jacobson) Rubin. Dr. Rubin is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Charyl Rubin, of the home; children and spouses: Bryant and Denise Rubin, Overland Park, KS; Cathy and Tracy Swalley, Overland Park, KS; Russ Rubin, San Antonio, TX; Kimber Leigh Nussbaum, Chicago, IL; Jordan and Tonya Nussbaum, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren: Gavin and Alex Brivik, Overland Park, KS; Elizabeth Rubin, Annapolis, MD, Hannah Rubin, Overland Park, KS; Tyler, Olivia and Jake Swalley, all of Overland Park, KS. He was a devoted, loving family man with emphasis on his wife and his children, both biological and step-children, which he considered to be his real children. Dr. Rubin took great pride in all of his children, especially his grandchildren. Dr. Rubin loved to work on his model train layout and enjoyed his orchid garden, which he built. He had many hobbies including golf, enjoyed remodeling portions of his house and loved native American art. Dr. Rubin will be greatly missed by his family.
