Eleanor Abrams, 90, died Saturday, November 24, 2012. Funeral services 1:00pm, Thursday, November 29 at The Louis Memorial Chapel. Burial Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers. The family suggests contributions to the Friends of Johnson County Developmental Supports, 10501 Lackman Rd, Lenexa, KS 66219 in appreciation for their care of Eleanor’s daughter, Nancy, or the Hanan Wedlan Family Fund at Beth Shalom Synagogue, 14200 Lamar, Overland Park, KS 66223. Eleanor graduated from Central High School and attended Kansas City Junior College. Eleanor worked as a secretary in various businesses and ended her career with 12 years in the Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas Medical Center, retiring in 1990. She was a member of Beth Shalom Synagogue, its Sisterhood, and a life member of Hadassah. She had many lifelong friends. Eleanor’s selfless devotion to helping family, friends, and neighbors in whatever way she could was a wonderful attribute. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and being an active and involved grandmother gave her the greatest happiness for the last 26 years. Eleanor will be remembered for her lovely smile; sweet and kind nature; and genuine interest in others. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents: Sam and Elizabeth (Klebansky) Wedlan; beloved stepmother; Ida (Glass) Wedlan; husband: Jerry Abrams; brother: Hanan Wedlan; sisters: Reva Kaufman, Mary Ann Mour; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She is survived by daughters and son-in-law: Lisa and Dr. Mitchell Hamburg, Leawood, KS, Nancy Abrams, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren: Jessica, Danny, Shayna and Carolyn Hamburg; sisters-in-law: Dolores Wedlan, Mission Hills, KS, and Betty Abrams, St. Louis, MO. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
