Goldie H. Riss, 92, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Villa St. Joseph. Graveside services will be 11:00am Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy, Beth Shalom Synagogue or a charity of one’s choice. Mrs. Riss was born February 27, 1924 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Max and Lebe (Goldberg) Shear, and was a lifelong area resident. She attended Kansas City public schools, graduating from Central High School in 1942. Goldie worked as a sales associate at the Jones Store Company for over 30 years. In 1946 she married Harold Riss. They resided in Kansas City, MO for 15 years having a family of 3 children. They then moved to Prairie Village, KS where she lived until her husband of 56 years, Harold, passed away in 2001. She then moved to Overland Park living independently until 2015. She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom and the Jewish Community Center. Goldie enjoyed playing cards at the Jewish Community Center’s Heritage Center, loved to cook for her family and enjoyed spending time with them during holidays and special events. Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Harry Shear and Brad Shear; sisters, Roz Pittell and Jean Robin. Also preceding her in death was her loving niece, Gerean Rudnick. Goldie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Nancy and Dr. Elliott Franks; sons and daughters-in-law: Mike and Donna Riss, Olathe, KS and Bill and Debbie Riss, Charlotte, NC; grandchildren: Matt Franks and Julie Fischoff, Seth Franks, Leah Franks and Andrew Tirman, Rachel Franks, Amanda Riss, Sam Riss, Amy and Ben Hager, Laura Riss and great-grandson: Nathan Hager.
