Helen Edelbaum Lesky Obituary (1924 - 2011)

Helen Edelbaum Lesky, 86, passed away on August 16, 2011 at Menorah Medical Center. She was born December 12, 1924 in Lodz, Poland. Helen lost her parents and sisters to the Holocaust. Helen and her brother, Ben, were the only survivors from their family. In 1945, Helen met and married Leo Lesky at D.P. camp. They came to the United States in 1946 on the first ship carrying survivors from the Holocaust. Helen enjoyed working as a seamstress. Through her sewing, she made many lasting friendships. Surviving Helen are her two children: James (Karen) Lesky and Diana (Jack) Lipszyc; six grandchildren: Rachel (Doug) Spear, Jennifer (Jim) DeGood, David Lesky, Brian (Debra) Lipszyc, Sarah (Matthew) Forti and Michelle Lipszyc. She was also blessed with three great-granddaughters: Lila Spear, Ella DeGood and Emily Forti. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Friday, August 19, 2011 at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue. Burial to follow at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. Friends and family will be received at the Village Shalom Chapel and social hall on Friday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, Kehilath Israel Synagogue or Village Shalom.
