Judy was born December 22, 1945 to the late Marvin and Zelda Gallun in Washington, DC, where she grew up as part of a large and spirited extended family, with whom she remained close throughout her lifetime. She was a graduate of F.W. Ballou High School. She furthered her education at Washington D.C. Teachers College and the UMKC School of Education, where she received her B.A. A natural educator, Judy taught in the Kansas City Missouri Public Schools and Beth Shalom’s Early Childhood Education Center as well as various volunteer teaching positions. While attending UMKC, Judy met Kansas City native, Steve Weinberg and they were married in 1969. Judy’s deep love for family and education was fulfilled through the upbringing of her four children and four grandchildren. As a teacher, mother, and Bubbe, Judy could turn any event, experience, story, or object into the focus of imaginative projects and play. Each summer, she found joy in packing up the family and pets for memorable road trips to visit her family around Washington, D.C., culminating in cherished stays on the beaches of Maryland and Delaware. Wherever she went, she enjoyed engaging with and warmly connecting with people. Judy succeeded at creating a welcoming home, where her loving energy lifted spirits and filled hearts at Shabbat celebrations and on all days. Judy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Steve and children Mark, Matt, Shana, and Lauren; daughters-in-law, Renee and Christine; son-in-law, Doug; and grandchildren Noah, Milo, Henry, and Aviva Sylvia; She is also survived by her sister Harriet; brothers, Jacob and Shelton, as well as so many cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends that she loved dearly.
