Karla Korsten, 92, of Mission, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at The Atriums. Graveside services will be at 11:00am Friday, December 30, at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Children’s Mercy Hospital. Mrs. Korsten was born in Austria where she met her future husband in school. She married in Antwerp, and survived the war in London. After the war, they moved New York, then to Pittsburg, KS and finally to Kansas City where she and her husband made a life in the garment industry. Mrs. Korsten was a former member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah and was very active in its Sisterhood. She enjoyed music, art, needlecraft and playing the piano. She was a longtime member of the Kansas City Philharmonic. She loved to travel, meet new people and share life. She volunteered at Children’s Mercy Hospital, for over 20 years. She was the Matriarch of the family being a great cook and maintaining a “perfect home”. Mrs. Korsten preceded in death by her parents, Oswald and Anna Kandelman; her husband of 47 years, Henry Korsten and a brother, Richard Kane. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Eric and Carol Korsten, Overland Park, KS; Gerry and Jane Korsten, Leawood, KS; grandchildren: Ryan, Jeffrey, Mark, Jeni, Sarah, Anne, Wesley and Ruth; also surviving are 8 great-grandchildren.
