Laura Palley Katz Obituary (2008) - Kansas City, Missouri

Laura Palley Katz died on December 28, 2008 at age 83 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born to Samuel and Anna Palley in Newport, Rhode Island on April 9, 1925. She was married for 26 years to Elliot Louis Katz of Long Branch, New Jersey, an attorney, who died in 1976. Laura graduated from Rogers High School in Newport and the University of Michigan, with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and a minor in mathematics. She worked as a chemist for Coca Cola in New York City in the 1950’s and taught math until 1995 at Long Branch High School, in Long Branch, New Jersey. She was an accomplished bridge player and Life Master. She was active in the Democratic Party in New Jersey in the 1960’s and 1970’s. She is survived by her three children, Jane Palley Katz (New York, NY), Martha Palley Katz (Kansas City, MO) and Henry William Katz (Kansas City, MO) and her older sister Ruth Palley Tepper (San Francisco). Her youngest daughter, Amy Sarah Katz, died in 1975. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Leon Stites and her beloved and only grandchild Sarah Elizabeth Stites. The funeral will be held at 11:00am Friday, January 2, 2009 at the New Reform Temple, Gregory and Main, Kansas City, MO.
