Lawrence W. Hans, 90, Mission Hills, KS, passed away July 2, 2013. Larry, the son of Samuel and Evelyn Hans, was born in Osage Oklahoma. His family moved to Kansas City in 1930, where he graduated from Southwest High school Class of 1940. He went on to the University of Missouri and became a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. During World War II, Larry entered pilot training and became a proud member of the Army Air Corps. At the conclusion of the war, Larry and the "love of his life" Gladys Kornblum, were married and enjoyed 68 beautiful years together. Larry, who learned the retail clothing business from his father, went on to cofound with his brother Richard, a new concept in retailing, Sam's Department Stores. He and his brother also were cofounders of the United States Uniform Co, distributors of Police, Fire Fighter, and U.S. Postal Uniforms. Larry was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved the game of golf and was proud that he "shot his age" at 83. He played tennis with a passion and was a runner long before it was fashionable. Larry was a member of Oakwood Country Club, Palm Desert Country Club, Palm Desert CA, and The Temple, Congregation B'nai Jehudah. Larry was predeceased by his older brother, Melvin and younger brother Richard. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Gladys. Two adoring daughters, Leslie Hans, Scottsdale, AZ, Cheri Berman and husband Rick of Houston, TX, grandchildren that he loved dearly, Elisa Spencer and husband, Brian, Olathe, KS and Kenneth Berman, Dallas, TX. and a great-grandson Eric Michael Spencer. Services for Larry will be at 11:00am Sunday, July 7, 2013 in the Rose Hill Cemetery Mausoleum, with entombment to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a charity of one’s choice.
