Leibert Kaufman died on the first day of Passover, Shabbat, the 14th day of Nisan, 5775, April 4, 2015. Graveside services will be at 11:00am Wednesday, April 8th, 2015 at Sheffield Cemetery, 6100 Wilson Road, Kansas City, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Beth Shalom or to Wayside Waifs. Leibert was born in Kansas City, MO on December 6, 1929, the son of Jacob and Rebecca Kaufman. He served as a corporal in the United States Army. Leibert was employed as a claims reviewer in the United States Social Security Administration his entire career. He is most well-known for his work as the “Shammas” at Congregation Beth Shalom. Leibert volunteered his time to be the “face” of the Congregation. On a daily basis, 365 days per year, for many years, Leibert opened the doors, prepared the House for prayer, and befriended all who came to pray. He was especially fond of helping the Bar and Bat Mitzvah kids learn how to wrap Tefillin, in most cases, for the first time. Leibert was a lover of the Jewish people, Bible history and all animals, particularly Caleb, the Keeshond, and Frances. Leibert is survived by his sister-in-law, Esther Kaufman. He was preceded in death by his two siblings, Seymour Kaufman and Seena Kaufman.
