Lillian Shirley Lustgarten Obituary (1925 - 2010)

Lillian Shirley Lustgarten, 85, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Olathe Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Friday, July 16 in the Yukon Chapel at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Burial to follow. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association or Beth Shalom Synagogue’s Nursery School. Mrs. Lustgarten worked in the school office at Beth Shalom Synagogue for many years. She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom since the early 1970’s and was a member of its Sisterhood. Mrs. Lustgarten was a member of Hadassah, ORT, Brandeis Book Club and Club 100. She also volunteered a significant amount of time at the VFW. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star while living in North Platte, NE. She was active in PTA, the Blue Birds and Campfire Clubs for girls. She and her daughter, Sharon, visited schools as part of their involvement with the Kansas City Reading Program. Mrs. Lustgarten was born in Omaha, NE, married Avrom Lustgarten on March 16, 1947, and then came to the Kansas City area in 1968. While living in Omaha, she helped build WW II aircraft in the bomber plant. She enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and cooking and baking for her family and friends. Mrs. Lustgarten was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Goldie Staenberg. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Avrom Lustgarten, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law: Sheldon and Juanita Lustgarten, Spartanburg, S.C; Ed and Naomi Lustgarten, St. Johns, FL; daughter and son-in-law: Sharon and Jay Rosenthal, Lenexa, KS; sister: Blanche Wise, Omaha, NE; and her granddaughters: Anne and Rebecca Rosenthal. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many firends.
