Major “Mickey” Goldstein, 78, Prairie Village, KS passed away at his home Saturday, September 21, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services 11:00am Monday, September 23 at the Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave. Kindly omit flowers; the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. Mickey was born in Joplin, MO, the son of Sam and Jeanette (Eissman) Goldstein. The family moved to Kansas City where Mickey graduated from Westport High School. He continued his education at the University of Missouri – Columbia where he was a member of Phi Sigma Delta fraternity and earned a Bachelor’s Degree. He was a member of Beth Shalom Synagogue, a Shriner and served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was also a member of FJR Buying Group for over 25 years and The Worldwide Buying Group (WBG). Mickey was well known in the community as the owner of Mickey’s Surplus, an army/navy surplus store he founded and operated for 56 years, until his death. He excelled in the art of shopping for treasures at estate sales. His pleasures and hobbies included world travel and cruises, fishing and oil painting. Mickey was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of over 17 years, Barbara Goldstein, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law: Sharon Goldstein, Prairie Village, KS, Shelley and David Fishbach, Cleveland, OH, Debbie and Jeff Dubinsky, Overland Park, KS, Julie and Richard Fruhauf, Wichita, KS; son: Stephen Singmon and his partner Laura Rosenthal, Boston, MA; grandchildren: Rebecca Fishbach, Adam Dubinsky and his wife Erin, Jonathan Dubinsky and his wife Elizabeth, Gregory Dubinsky, Landon Fruhauf, Evan Fruhauf, Ruby Singmon; great-grandson: William Dubinsky; bother-in-law and sister-in-law: Donald and Betty Kopin, Leawood, KS; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Alice and Clarence Winer, Kansas City, MO; aunt: Cyril Eissman, Leesville, LA; cousins: Barbara and Jerry Shapiro, Karen and Marc Klein, Herb and Flo Eissman, Delores Castriani; devoted friends: Mark and Julie Turley; former wife: Judith Wasserman.
