Malcolm A. "Mal" Litman

November 28, 1929 - June 29, 2014

Malcolm A. Litman, 84, of Leawood, KS passed away June 29, 2014. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Thursday, July 3, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave. Kindly omit flowers; the family suggests contributions to Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (www.jinsa.org), Kehilath Israel Synagogue or a charity of the donor’s choice. Born on November 28, 1929, in Kansas City, MO, Malcolm was the second of three children to Philip and Sara Litman. Mal graduated from Paseo high School in 1947 and graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1951. He continued his education at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law, graduating in 1957 with an LL.B, and then from George Washington University in 1958 with an LL.M. Mal served as a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, D.C. and as a law clerk to Judge Giles S. Rich, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He then returned to Kansas City and practiced law in the fields of Copyrights, Patents and Trademarks for 51 years until his retirement in 2009. Mal was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Sara Litman and his nephew, Joel H. Winston. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Dr. Myra Rosenberg Litman; his four daughters: Susan Lichatowich and husband Jim, Ann Geier and husband Greg, Jennifer Goldman and husband Daniel, Stephanie Lapine and husband Jon; step-children: Brian Ross and wife Cheryl, and Judi Miller. He is also survived by grandchildren: Ella Lichatowich, Allison, Dylan and Brett Geier, Maia and Adam Goldman, Kevin and Austin Lapine, Alex, Holden and Max Ross, Kayla and McKenzie Bailey, and Matthew and Joshua Miller. He is also survived by sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Manny Winston, and brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Beatrice Litman, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
