June 20, 1923 - October 8, 2016
Marian Magazine Hermanson, 93, a lifelong Kansas City resident, passed away peacefully Oct. 8 at Kansas City Hospice House. A proud wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Marian lived for her family. Nothing made her happier than to spend time with her loved ones and share their life’s experiences. She lived a simple life, where one of her favorite sayings was, “I’m not in want of anything.” She was a woman of valor. Her children and husband came first. She tended her household. She refused to gossip. She assisted those in need. She was a helper. She loved to collect friends along the way – the pharmacist, the bus driver, the bank teller; earlier in her life – her boys’ school teachers. She developed special relationships with people in her everyday life. In her later years, Marian delighted in participating as an active member of the Heritage Center, where she volunteered, made many new friends and reacquainted with old. She spent her last years at the Atriums, where last week, she performed in a choir performance. Marian was the third child of her beloved parents Phillip and Etta Magazine. Her siblings, Sidney and Sarah, were significantly older, and she was devoted to them as if they were her second parents. Married to Elza (LZ) Hermanson (of blessed memory) for 48 years, she is survived by her sons, who “never gave her any trouble,” Arnold (Sherri) and Phil (Jackie) and grandchildren Daniel (Anna), Nathan (Jaimi), Elena (Ben), Seth and Jonathan, and great-grandson and the light of her last days, Pierce. Other beloved family members include special nieces and cousins. Graveside service 11:30am Monday, October 10, 2016 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family thanks Marian’s caregivers at the Atriums and Comforcare, and all those who have been a part of her life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Heritage Center at the Jewish Community Center, Kansas City Hospice House, or a charity of one’s choice. Another of Marian’s favorite sayings was, “Go do better.” Mom, none of us could have done any better. You will always be our proud Mom, Grandma and Aunt. We will miss your physical presence, but know you live in each of our hearts. God bless you.
