Mina Nisenkier, 88, Overland Park, KS passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, at Village Shalom. Funeral services 10:00am Tuesday, June 19, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue. Burial Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers. The family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, Beth Shalom Synagogue or the Alzheimer’s Unit at Village Shalom. Mina and her late husband Abraham, both Holocaust survivors, met in 1945 at a displaced persons camp and in 1946 were married in a religious ceremony. It was not until 1948, while living in France, that they were married in a civil ceremony. They moved to New York in 1954 and then to Kansas City, where they raised their three children. Abe was a tailor and in the late - 60’s they opened Mission Tailors, which Mina continued to operate even after Abe’s death in 1978. She retired in the mid-80’s. Mina was a former member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue,a member of Beth Shalom Synagogue and an early member of the New Americans Club. Mina loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved to knit and crochet. She was a great cook who was known especially for her chicken soup. Mina was preceded in death by her parents: Samuel and Dobra (Gershonkorn) Markiwcz; loving husband of 32 years, Abe; brother: Kopel Markowitz; sister: Bina Gutovitz. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Henri and Carolyn Nisenkier, Butch and Debra Nisenkier, all of Overland Park; daughter and son-in-law: Danielle F. and Sam Levine, Overland Park; sister: Manya Wajcman, Overland Park; grandchildren: Ashley Soltz and her husband Barry, Olathe, KS, Peter Nisenkier and his wife Natasha, Stilwell, KS, Alexis Levine, Kansas City, MO, Brian Levine, Overland Park; great-grandchildren Cory, Ethan and Jordan Soltz. The family would like to thank Dr. Alexander Davis, their family and friends and the staffs at KC Hospice and Palliative Care and Village Shalom for their wonderful care and support.
