June 19, 1931 - January 2, 2019
Nadine Braverman, 87, of Overland Park, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2019. She was born June 19, 1931 at St. Joseph Hospital (KCMO). She attended Sanford B. Ladd Elementary School, Central Junior High School, and Central High School. In the early 1950's, Nadine met Arthur Sanford Braverman at the local Jewish Community Center, at that time located at the corner of Linwood and Wayne (Arthur was in the military, stationed at Forbes Air Force Base, Topeka). Nadine and Arthur were married on April 6,1952, by Rabbi Solomon, at Kehilath Israel Synagogue; Nadine and Arthur were happily married for 45 years. Nadine was a loving Air Force wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Nadine and her husband, Arthur, thought of her daughter-in-law, Rebecca as their own daughter. Nadine's family, the Horowitz's, were one the founders of Sh'erith Israel D'Lubawitz; one of the forerunners of Kehilath Israel Synagogue. Nadine's relative, Annie Horowitz, was the first burial in the Sh'erith Israel D'Lubawitz Cemetery, also known as Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. Nadine's family is grateful to the staff of Delmar Gardens of Overland Park for their attentive care, where she lived for the past 21 years. The only sentence she could say was “I love you”, which she said, frequently, to residents, staff, visitors, and relatives. Nadine was known as "the I love you lady". Before Nadine resided at Delmar Gardens, one of her favorite pastimes was spending the day with her children and grandchildren. Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, Morris M. and Fay (Ruben) Horowitz, her sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor (Horowitz) and Leon Kupper, and her loving husband, Arthur. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Philip Braverman, of Overland Park; and Michael and Rebecca (Rosenbaum) Braverman of Raytown; two grandchildren, Elisa Braverman (and Ryan Vine), and Deborah (Braverman) and Justin Shults; two great-grandchildren, Alexander Shults (named after her husband Arthur) and Gwendolyn Vine; nephew, Rick Kupper; and two nieces, Karen Geller and Nancy Sickle. The funeral will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 1 pm at Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO. Interment at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery to follow. Shiva will be held at 9405 East 84th Terrace, Raytown, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah, B'nai Brith, or Kehilath Israel Synagogue.
