June 16, 1946 - November 29, 2009
A bright, funny, good man has died. Paul H. Levy, 63, son of the late Dora and Sam Levy, died November 29, 2009. He lived in Kansas City his entire life and was a graduate of Southwest High School and UMKC. Paul began his career on the Advertising and Promotion staff of the Kansas City Star and Times, and then was the editor for weekly Squire Publications as well as a national auto racing weekly, Motorsports International. Paul then worked as the Public Relations Director for Bernstein-Rein and Boasberg, promoting Kansas City throughout the country. Unable to continue with this job because of the progression of Multiple Sclerosis, Paul founded The Whole Person Center for Independent Living to enable people with disabilities to live more independently and productively. He later founded and served as Director of the Coalition for Independence, and founded Andrew’s Way Transitional Housing for people with mental illness to honor his step daughter Claudia. He initiated the Independent Living Services Program for the Rehabilitation Institute. Paul also developed a series of motivational seminars such as Success Unlimited. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Marianne. Other survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Miriam Levy of Safat, Israel, his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Rick Klein of Overland Park, niece Regina Krasner, nephew Brad Klein, and many nieces and nephews in Safat. He also leaves his step children: Stephen Krull his wife Jamie, and their children Sarah, Jonathan, Hannah, and Rachel; David Krull and his wife Julia; Peter Krull; Valerie Krull, Linda Lunsford, and Valerie’s daughter Kate; Laura and her husband Bob Rhodes; and his faithful cat, Emily Emily. The family wishes to express gratitude to Paul’s devoted caregivers and friends: Barbara Pointer, Sam Wendling, Kevin Pillsbury, Tameika Johnson and a special thanks to Teri Applegate Bryant. Paul devoted his life to helping people and was an inspiration to many. In spite of his challenges, Paul kept his sense of humor that he shared with everyone. He will be greatly missed. Per Paul’s and his family’s request, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Paul’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
