Phillip Rogoff, 87, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Wednesday, September7, 2011 at Menorah Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 2:30pm Friday, September 9, 2011 at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue. Burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah or Village Shalom. Mr. Rogoff was born in Kansas City, KS, the son of Irwin and Edith Rogoff, attended Kansas City, KS public schools, graduating from Wyandotte High School and was a lifelong area resident. He worked with his father, Irwin, at M. Rogoff Waste Paper Company, starting there after his military service. Prior to his retirement in 1988, at age 65, he worked at National Compressed Steel as a special metals buyer for 15 years. Phil was a member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, its bowling league and was a former member of Congregation Ohev Sholom. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He served in Alaska, the Aleutian Islands and worked on aircraft. Phil was a family man for 64 years, devoted to his family and community. He was a good, gentle man who was happy in his life. He cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to golf and exercise with his wife, Phyllis, loved to shop for bargains and always bought enough to share. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Martin Rogoff, New York and his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Fay Rogoff, who died on August 22, 2011. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Gary and Barbara Rogoff, Overland Park, KS; Richard and Doris Rogoff, Chicago, IL; daughter: Janice Kaufmann, Carmel, IN; sister: Marcia Temple, Overland Park, KS; brother-in-law: Sanford L. Cohn, Leawood, KS; grandchildren: Jason Kaufmann, Nicole Kaufmann and Rebecca Rogoff; great-grandchildren: Jessica Kaufmann and Brennan Kaufmann. Phil will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.
