July 11, 1936 - August 23, 2013
A great man has left this earth. Seymour Alexander Rudnick passed away suddenly on erev Shabbat, August 23rd,, 2013, after a fantastic two-week trip to Israel with all of his family. Funeral services will be 1:30pm Monday, August 26 at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers; the family suggests contributions to the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy, the American Heart Association or Jewish Family Services. A kind and gentle man, “Cy” as he was known by most, never met a person he didn’t like. And he was, in turn, loved by all who had the good fortune to know him. He will be missed most by his adoring wife of fifty-four years, Esther, his children, Jessica and Barry, Jonathan and Marcelle, and Jimmy and his grandchildren Ethan, Anna, Sagi, Shir-el and Shefer. He was born in Philadelphia, PA to Nathan and Lillian Rudnick and raised in part by Laura Rudnick. He was the youngest of five; his siblings were Bernie, Claire, Evelyn and Elliot. He lived life, not as a dress rehearsal, but to the very fullest possible extent. And we who traveled this journey with him are better, each of us, for having known him. A multi-faceted and phenomenally talented man, “Alex” as he was known by his wife, could always be found with a smile on his face, love in his heart and a song on his lips. A successful and compassionate businessman, he and Esther created “Cy Rudnick’s Fabrics”, a household name in the region and a haven for seekers of a brand of fashion and fun only he could provide. Generous of time, resources and soul, he gave all of himself always to each of his many endeavors. And with all of his various accomplishments, there was one role that Cy was prouder of, and did better than, any other. He was, above all else, husband, father and grandfather. “Simcha” as he was known in Hebrew, always embodied the meaning of his name…happiness. He blessed the future for the generations to come, and, most of all…He did it his way.
