September 9, 1943 - March 14, 2021
Sherry Abramowitz, 77, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Sunday, March 14th, 2021. Sherry was born on September 9, 1943 in Tampa, Florida. She was fortunate to have two loving, kind and wonderful parents, Edith and Ernest Kriss. Sherry attended Faxon School, Paseo High and graduated from Southwest High School. She went to Sunday School and Hebrew School at Beth Israel Abraham (Voliner) Synagogue. Sherry was a member of Kol Kol Ray and SYO. She went to Camp Moshava for two years. Sherry taught Sunday School at BIAV and tutored Bar Mitzvah classes. After graduation, she worked at S.Riekes & Sons. Sherry began her career at the Internal Revenue Service in 1967 as a tax examiner, and later became an instructor, manager (of Statistics of Income), and training coordinator for thousands of employees over the course of her career. She loved her job and retired after 32 years of service. Sherry was a member of Hadassah and served in many roles, including President and Treasurer of the Greater Kansas City Chapter as well as Treasurer for the Hadassah Midwest Region. She belonged to Congregation Beth Torah and was also a member of Beth Shalom Sisterhood. Sherry enjoyed playing games, especially Mahjong. She was happiest hosting and cooking for friends and family during the Jewish Holidays. Sherry always considered herself lucky. She cherished family above all else. Her children and grandchildren were the loves of her life. She was fiercely devoted to them and considered them to be her greatest achievement. As her dad always quoted “Your children are your interest, but your grandchildren are your dividends.” She loved her children-in-law and was thankful for the love and joy they brought to the family. Although Sherry had many first cousins, during her youth, she was very close to two of her cousins, Eddie Goldstein and Rose Lee (Jerwick) Weisberger. They had many, many fun adventures together going downtown for lunch and movies. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Edith Kriss, and siblings Jack, Rochelle and Beverly. She is survived by her children, Robin Abramowitz (Brian Thompson), Beth O’Bryan (John) Jason Abramowitz (Dolly Johnson) and grandchildren Tyler Rowe, Storm Johnson, Sarah O’Bryan and Hallie O’Bryan, and her sweet little furry Havanese baby, Olivia. Sherry will be forever loved and missed. Kindly omit flowers. The family suggests contributions to Hadassah Greater Kansas City, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline or Congregation Beth Torah.
