October 24, 1916 - August 7, 2016
Sol Daniels, 99, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Village Shalom. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Tuesday, August 9, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue. Burial is at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Sherman and Irene Dreiseszun Court Fund at Kehilath Israel Synagogue, 10501 Conser, Overland Park, KS 66212 or a charity of one’s choice. Sol was born on Oct. 24, 1916 in Kansas City, MO., son of the late Sam and Fannie Daniels. His mother passed away before he was 3 years old and at age 5, Sol’s father married Esther Kur, the only mother he ever knew. Sol loved sports, especially baseball and football, and his moniker was the “Home Run King of Benton Grade School.” He still spoke of that “label” even at the age of 99. An avid Chiefs fan, Sol was a season ticket holder for the Kansas City Chiefs and enjoyed taking multiple family members to many of their games. A notorious sweets lover, granddaughter Samantha stated, “He never met a candy bar or ice cream he didn’t like.” Always a quick wit as granddaughter Jenifer recalled, Sol kept everyone on their toes even to the very end. Sol graduated from Paseo High School and served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he worked in the family’s garment business until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue and was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, the love of his life, Mollie Dreiseszun Daniels; his sisters, Rosie Daniels, Jean Zurovsky and brother, Harry Daniels. Sol is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Richard Hitt, Chesterfield, MO; son, Bruce Daniels, Overland Park, KS; sister, Dina Jaben, Virginia Beach, VA; sisters-in-law Irene Dreiseszun and Anita Daniels of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren and spouses: Jamie and David Steinbach, Jenifer and Brian Caracciolo, Samantha and Samuel Feinberg, Jessica and David Kooris, Sara and Danny Wajcman, Rachel and Brian Gruber, Rayna Maayan Daniels and Micah Naftali Daniels; great-grandchildren: Jack, Max, Sadie, Alana, Risa, Ava, Dahlia, Eva, Michaela, Fina, Kira, Maya, Shayna, Akiva and Yaakov and many loving nieces and nephews. Sol was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Donald Cohen and the staff of Village Shalom for the wonderful care given to Sol.
