Sophie Kratchman Firestone Obituary (2008)

Sophie Firestone, 86, K.C., MO, passed away September 27, 2008 at St. Joseph Medical Center. Graveside services will be 3:00 pm Sunday, September 28, at Rose Hill Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, The family suggests contributions to Jewish Family Services. Sophie and her husband, Bernard, owned and operated Waldo Furniture. She later helped her brothers manage National Furniture, the Kratchman family business. She was a former member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah. Sophie was preceded in death by her parents: Morris and Ida Kratchman; husband of 32 years, Bernard; siblings: Alex and Harry Kratchman; Elsie Brodkin. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law: Mark and Kathy Firestone, K.C., MO; daughters and sons-in-law: Gay and Ralph Hartwich, Lenexa, KS; Joy Schwartz Flanagan, Leawood, KS; Nancy and Moe Levin, Crofton, MD; sister-in-law: Bea Flam, P.V., KS; grandchildren and their spouses: Korey and Kaori Hartwich and son Rowan Makoto, Silver Spring, MD; Ryan Hartwich, Overland Park, KS; Dr. Kimberly Firestone, K.C., MO; Brandon and Candice Levin, Crofton, MD. Sophie will be greatly missed.
