Sylvia Ruth Eveloff Feldman, RN, 88, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 at St. Luke’s South. Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, August 1 in the Yukon Chapel at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the Beth Shalom Lechem Fund. Sylvia was born in Kansas City, MO then moved to St. Joseph, MO with her family, where she attended school. She graduated in 1945 from Missouri Methodist Nursing School and Hospital in St. Joseph, MO and was the first Jewish graduate. After graduation, she worked at the University of Minnesota Medical Center and then moved back to Kansas City raising her 4 children and continuing her work as a head nurse at several Kansas City hospitals and also in private nursing. Sylvia retired in 1990. Sylvia raised her 4 children by herself throughout her life to become very successful adults. Sylvia was a former member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rachel and Leo Eveloff of St. Joseph, MO. Sylvia is survived by daughters: Stephanie Fehr (Donald), Rye Brook, New York; Teri Joy Eisen, Olathe, Kansas; Renee Puterbaugh (Thomas), Lorton, Virginia; son: Ronald Feldman (Deborah), Canyon Country, California; brothers: Philip Eveloff (Kismet), St. Joseph, MO; Bernard Eveloff (Marcia), Kansas City, MO; sister: Mary Burns, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren: David Fehr (Kathryn) Chicago, IL; Mark Fehr (Tuba), Naperville,, IL; Rachel Fehr and Elyse Fehr, both of Rye Brook, New York; Tamara Goldstein (Brian) and Brandi Jackson (Willis), all of Kansas City, MO; Rachel Price (John), Mesa, Arizona; Sean Feldman and Jamie Feldman, both of Canyon Country, California; Michael Puterbaugh and Laura Puterbaugh, both of Lorton, Virginia; great-grandchildren: Leah, Marisa and Julia Goldstein, Kansas City, MO. Many loving nieces and nephews also survive. She was a woman of valor more precious than rubies. Sylvia always stood her ground in life and overcame many adversities. She loved jazz, dancing, writing poetry, peonies and great old movies. Sylvia was the “rock” of her family and always gave of herself when needed. Her memory will not be forgotten and will continue through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren through their beauty and love. She will be greatly missed by her large family and many friends.
