Warren Jay Siegel died July 15, 2011 at home while surrounded by his loving family after his more than two-year battle with stomach cancer. He was 68. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, July 18, 2011 at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO. Burial to follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery – Beth Torah Section. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Turning Point, the Center for Hope and Healing, 8900 State Line Road, Suite 240, Shawnee Mission, KS 66206 or Congregation Ohev Sholom Kiddush Fund, 5311 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208. Born on July 26, 1942, in St. Louis, Warren attended University City High School and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. After college, Warren worked as a case manager for the Missouri Department of Welfare and then spent two years in Ethiopia as a Peace Corps Volunteer with his wife, Louise. On returning to the United States, he worked for the Federal Government, first for the Department of Defense and later for the Department of Labor. After 29 years of fighting on behalf of employees, he retired from Federal service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pearl Siegel, of beloved memory. Warren leaves behind his beloved wife of 46 years, Louise, and his three children, Hollie (Roeland Park, KS, Heather (Wayzata, MN) and Matthew (Arlington, VA) and two grandchildren (Brandon and Benjamin, Wayzata, MN). His brother, Barry Siegel, of Aptos, CA also survives him. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the wonderful care and treatment which Warren received from Dr. Repine (Kansas City Cancer Center), Dr. Sinclair (Hospice), Lori Kemper (Hospice nurse), the nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN and the staff at the Kansas City Cancer Center. The family would also like to thank all those who expressed loving concern for Warren and his family during this difficult time. Warren left a legacy that few will be able to emulate. His passion for life and his appreciation for all of life’s wonders will be missed.
