Wilbert M. Gale Obituary (2007) - Overland Park, Kansas

Wilbert M. Gale, 85, of Overland Park, passed away on July 30, 2007 at his home. Known for the mischiefvous twinkle in his eyes and his quick, playful wit, Wilbert loved his family and his work, and he found pleasure in music, travel and taking care of his yard. Wilbert sought order in all his endeavors, applying meticulousness, honesty and humor in generous portions. Born in Kansas City to Dora and Moses Galitzky on August 11, 1921, Wilbert served in World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Signal Corps stationed in Germany. He married Shirley Liebman on July 24, 1943. Wilbert was co-owner of Cake Box Bakers, Inc., along with his good friend, the late Sam Pasternak. He was also a dedicated member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah and its Brotherhood. Wilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, on January 1, 1980. He was also preceded by his parents, his four brothers, and his sister. Wilbert is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Jeffrey Winkel of Olathe, and Susan and Judge Leonard Hughes III of Kansas City; his grandchildren, Andrew Winkel of Prague, Czech Republic; Jordan and Kelly Barash of Los Angeles; Matthew and Jami Winkel of Venice, CA; and Brandon Barash of Los Angeles; his great-grandson, Braeden Barash; many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved companion of 20 years, Roberta Jacobs of Leawood. Funeral services will be 10:30am Thursday, August 2, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.
